Item Development and Analysis of the Rice Value Chain for the Hohoe and Jasikan Districts of the Volta Region, Ghana(FARA, 2017-10) Richard Ampadu-Ameyaw, Rose Omari, George Owusu EssegbeyThe Program of Accompanying Research for Agricultural Innovation (PARI) aims to improve rice production, processing, and marketing to enhance the livelihoods of the poor. This study utilizes a value chain analysis approach to identify production and postharvest constraints and develop intervention strategies. Conducted in the Volta Region of Ghana, the research provides baseline information for the formation of Innovation Platforms (IPs). Key findings highlight major constraints such as lack of land preparation equipment, high costs, and poor post-production quality due to inefficient milling. Proposed interventions include developing efficient seed distribution, establishing public-private partnerships (PPPs) for milling, and promoting local rice through better packaging and consumer sensitization. The study also identifies research opportunities in disease control, innovative pest management, and the development of new rice products.
