Item Factors Influencing Scaling-Up of Agricultural Innovations: Lessons from Ghana(FARA, 2017) Richard Ampadu-Ameyaw, Rose Omari and George Owusu EssegbeyThis study examines the key factors influencing the scaling-up of agricultural innovations in Ghana. Using evidence from agricultural innovation platforms and development interventions, the authors analyze how institutional arrangements, stakeholder engagement, policy environments, and capacity development influence the adoption and diffusion of agricultural technologies. The report highlights the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration, effective knowledge sharing, and enabling policy frameworks in facilitating the successful scaling of innovations. Lessons from Ghana demonstrate that innovation platforms, farmer participation, and strong partnerships between research institutions, extension services, and private sector actors significantly enhance the likelihood of sustainable technology adoption and widespread impact.Item Development and Analysis of the Rice Value Chain for the Hohoe and Jasikan Districts of the Volta Region, Ghana(FARA, 2017-10) Richard Ampadu-Ameyaw, Rose Omari, George Owusu EssegbeyThe Program of Accompanying Research for Agricultural Innovation (PARI) aims to improve rice production, processing, and marketing to enhance the livelihoods of the poor. This study utilizes a value chain analysis approach to identify production and postharvest constraints and develop intervention strategies. Conducted in the Volta Region of Ghana, the research provides baseline information for the formation of Innovation Platforms (IPs). Key findings highlight major constraints such as lack of land preparation equipment, high costs, and poor post-production quality due to inefficient milling. Proposed interventions include developing efficient seed distribution, establishing public-private partnerships (PPPs) for milling, and promoting local rice through better packaging and consumer sensitization. The study also identifies research opportunities in disease control, innovative pest management, and the development of new rice products.
