Abstract

This presentation provides an overview of the African Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services' institutional performance and contributions to agricultural extension and advisory services across Africa in 2025. It documents achievements in network coordination, capacity development, knowledge management, digital innovation, professionalization and agricultural transformation. The report highlights AFAAS's engagement across 35 African countries, its institutional membership network, project portfolio and efforts to strengthen agricultural advisory delivery systems. Particular attention is given to youth-led digital advisory enterprises, the Digital Connectors initiative in Kenya and Uganda, and the role of Country Fora in translating continental agricultural priorities into national action. The presentation further identifies ten lessons informing future programming and outlines five strategic priorities for 2026, emphasizing artificial intelligence, institutional sustainability, professional development, partnerships and implementation of the CAADP Kampala Agenda. It serves as a knowledge-sharing and institutional accountability resource for agricultural research and extension stakeholders, policymakers, development partners and organizations supporting Africa's agrifood systems transformation.

Description

AFAAS Annual Report 2025: Reimagining Extension, Transforming Agriculture is an institutional performance presentation prepared by the African Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (AFAAS) Secretariat for a continental stakeholder briefing. The presentation highlights AFAAS's achievements, institutional development and strategic contributions to strengthening agricultural extension and advisory services (AEAS) across Africa during 2025. It positions AFAAS as a continental platform connecting agricultural research, policy, innovation and last-mile delivery within the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) framework. It presents key organizational achievements, including engagement across 35 African countries, institutional network strengthening, capacity development, digital advisory services, knowledge management and support for agricultural value chain actors. The presentation organizes AFAAS's approach around three reinforcing pillars: strengthening institutions and networks, scaling agricultural innovations to the last mile, and advancing professional and sustainable agricultural extension and advisory services. It also showcases the Digital Connectors initiative implemented in Kenya and Uganda, highlighting youth-led agripreneurship, digital advisory services, enterprise incubation and partnerships supporting agricultural transformation. Drawing on ten institutional lessons from 2025, the presentation identifies five strategic priorities for 2026, including scaling AI-enabled advisory services, strengthening Country Fora, professionalizing extension practitioners, mobilizing strategic partnerships and supporting implementation of the CAADP Kampala Agenda. The publication concludes with partnership opportunities and an announcement of the 8th Africa-Wide Agricultural Extension Week, scheduled for August 2027 in Accra, Ghana.
